Senate Republican: US can’t ‘fix’ Iran

Senate Republican Dave McCormick said on Sunday that the United States won’t be able to “fix” Iran following the death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. He argued that U.S. policy cannot readily alter Iran’s fundamental leadership and strategic direction.

McCormick suggested that while the U.S. should continue pressure on Iran, deeper regime change is unlikely or unachievable, and improving regional security will require broader international cooperation.

He emphasized that the death of Khamenei marks a leadership transition but does not guarantee quick or predictable changes in Iran’s behavior or its nuclear and regional policies.
