US orders non-emergency personnel to leave Beirut embassy amid tensions
The United States has ordered non-emergency personnel to depart Beirut’s embassy amid rising tensions in Lebanon. Officials say Washington determined it was prudent to reduce the embassy footprint to essential personnel only.
The move follows security concerns and potential risks to staff in the capital. The remaining workforce will focus on core diplomatic and consular functions.
There was no indication of changes to ongoing policy positions or upcoming official engagements, and the U.S. embassy will continue to operate with essential staff.
